The resulting composition is not what matters but the liberation of the sign. The flags represent traditional identities and these are governed by structures that we do not control, everything we do is circumscribed by a deterministic system, hence the importance of their liberation. Identity is a construction that also operates on a personal level and is also affected by time, thus generating multiple versions of the same content. By taking the flags (closed signs) and transforming them into signals (open signs), an indeterminate number of new regroupings are generated.
