Light Years, 2009 -->

Light box (methacrylate, led lights and computer), 300 x 400 x 50 cm

Light Years is a black monolith that contains a light structure inside, hooked up to a counter and computer which make the lights in certain parts of a world map turn on. The lights (that can be turned off, as well) switch on with the passage of time, in accordance with the years when countries gained the right to vote: when the white men in the country were allowed to vote, the country lights up with a slow, blinking light. When white women could vote, too, the light blinks faster. Only when universal suffrage is achieved (with no distinctions based on race and/or religion) does the light stay on constantly.
